Did you know you can add your significant other onto your Motor Trade Insurance policy? Did you also know that they can be added on for relatively low cost?
You can add your spouse onto your policy with most good insurance companies nowadays with very little fuss – and it can cost as little as 5% of your total premium! Another thing is that the majority of insurance providers now treat common law partners the same way as a married partner. So, as long as you are living with your partner then you can get them added to your policy!
Let’s give an example of where you can save:
EG: You move into a house with your girlfriend/wife. You are paying insurance on two cars on two separate policies (approximately £450 on each one) as you both need to commute to work. You are a self employed motor trader who valets cars & vans. One of the cars is registered to you and one to your girlfriend/wife.
You take out a trade policy for £520 (this is an estimate, generally a trade policy can be as cheap, if not cheaper than a private car policy anyway!). Why not add her on as well? If you do this then you can add her vehicle onto your policy which means hers can then be cancelled. Doing this means that you are saving the cost of getting two separate premiums. Covering them on your trade policy will mean that they will also be insured for commuting as well. Doing this would not lead to your partner having to give up her no claims bonus either, this is due to the fact you can keep the discount for up to 2 years without use after you have cancelled a policy.
As long as you are working within the motor trade then you can take full advantage of the fact that you are able to cover a number of vehicles on one policy, usually for no extra cost. You must take into consideration the fact that the above benefits are only available to your spouse, common law or not. Other family members/friends/employees may be subject to different terms and conditions.
The ability to add your partner on to your Motor Trade Insurance policy is an often over looked benefit of working in the trade, maybe its time you considered it?
